"Hi all, just thought I'd let you know about a new multiplayer network I've created for playing the Total Annihilation series online called GameRanger." It has been around a long time.Īnother thing that bothers me is the part that you left out.

Yes, Total Annihilation on the Mac used a different networking library, NetSprocket, which is why it was never possible to have network compatibility with the PC version, that used DirectPlay. They are treated as separate games for the purposes of identification, but they are not divided into lobbies. GameRanger is different because it does recognise these packs automatically. They would be extremely fragmented if you had to choose a lobby depending on the expansion pack you have or want to play. That's necessary for those services because of their lobby hierarchy. That means it's up to the players to tell other players which packs they have. It was based on all the other places treating the expansion packs no differently to the original. The comment about being able to play the whole series wasn't worded well. I'm really excited to be releasing it, and hope it helps boost the TA community by allowing people to play that were unable to until now due to problems with opening ports, etc.Īs well as solving router problems, as far as I know, GameRanger is the only place where you can play the entire series.
